Whether you’re moving in alone or with a significant other, the first night in your new home is going to be a special one for all involved. Of course, moving in is also a lot of work, and sometimes things get forgotten or put off that can turn into a hassle later on. It can be easier to add another item to your pre-moving list than to wait until later. If you’re not satisfied with the carpet or flooring in your new home, why wait until after you’ve moved all your furniture in? Instead, schedule the installation for a few days before your move, and cover the new wood with plastic or mats to keep it free of track marks.Take care of your utilities and change of address forms in the month before moving. If you call early and simply set the cancel or transfer dates for your moving date, the transition will be seamless, and you can call your parents as soon as you move in to let them know how everything looks.Speaking of utilities, if you need electrical rewiring in your new home, it’s easier and cheaper to do it before moving. Your electricians will thank you, since it’s rare that they’ll have access to empty rooms in which to work. It’s also simpler to add lights and fans during this time.If there are other considerations that you’re putting off until after moving, think about whether you could take care of them now. Wouldn’t you rather spend the time in your new house settling in and showing it off to friends, rather than worrying about finishing up necessities?
